Neighbors Emergency Center Edgemere Celebrates First Year of Service with Food Drive, Festivities
HOUSTON, Texas, November 22, 2016 – Time flies when you are helping others. The Neighbors Emergency Center Edgemere location is pleased to recognize its first year of service to the El Paso community. Neighbors Edgemere began seeing patients November 21, 2015 and reports more than 4,800 patients have received premiere emergency medical care at this location over the last year. To commemorate the first year of service to the community, Neighbors sponsored a food drive for the El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank. The community was asked to drop off non-perishable food items at the Neighbors Edgemere location. The donation will help make the holidays brighter for El Paso’s needy.
Neighbors hosted an anniversary celebration November 5 at the center which had free refreshments from popular local food truck Sgt. Cheddars, face painting, giveaways, and a pie-eating contest with local celebrities KVIA Channel 7 News Anchor Rick Cabrera, Socorro Independent School District Assistant Athletic Director Jim Nunn, and El Paso Fire Department Lieutenant Rick Marin. Radio KSII’s Trish Martinez hosted live radio remotes at the celebration.
Over this last year Neighbors Edgemere received the Gold Seal of Approval by The Joint Commission, a nationally recognized independent accreditation organization committed to certifying facilities with the safest, highest quality, best-value health care.
Besides personalized ER care with short wait times, Neighbors has also brought approximately 30 jobs to the area economy by hiring local board-certified physicians and medical teams with emergency room experience that treat all adult and pediatric emergencies. The Edgemere location’s Medical Director is Samara Bowen, MD, and the location’s Facility Director is Natalie Ontiveros.
Neighbors prides itself on active community involvement. At Edgemere, Neighbors has been privileged to participate in local events that benefit health and wellness, local youth and families, and education.
Neighbors Edgemere has supported many non-profit organizations, most recently the “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” event, the International Men’s March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault and Gender Violence. Neighbors employees also participated in the Michelob Ultra El Paso Half Marathon. This is a Boston Marathon qualifier race and the Neighbors Edgemere team joined the 5k contest with all proceeds going to the El Paso Marathon Organization which will make donations at the end of 2016 to local El Paso charities.
In the community, Neighbors Edgemere participated in the Socorro Independent School District Mother Daughter Conference in an effort to build strong leadership skills in women and Neighbors also sponsored the SISD Health Fair Kids Korner.
To support education, Neighbors Edgemere donated a much-needed wheel chair to Lujan Chavez Elementary School, is the proud sponsor of the El Dorado Baseball Team scoreboard, and Neighbors donated team shirts for the El Dorado High School Baseball Camp. Neighbors Emergency Center Edgemere was also happy to sponsor breakfasts and lunches for the school district’s staff development days.
